Biography of Dr.Schuessler

Dr.Willhelm Heinrich Schuessler lived from 1821 to 1898. He was born on 21st August 1821 in Bad Zwischenahn(Germany) and died on 30th March 1898 near Oldenburg where he spent many years of his life. He studied in Paris‚ Berlin‚ Giessen and Prague and did his Doctorate in Giessen in the medicine.

Initially Dr.Willhelm Heinrich Schuessler was an active homoeopathic doctor for fifteen years. The discoveries of Dr.Rudolf Ludwig Karl Virchow who discovered the cells of the human body fascinated Dr.Schuessler, in such a way‚ that he began to do research in the base of the cell knowledge for the causes of illness and their treatment. He laid his focus on mineral salts‚ which are important for the functioning of the human body. Dr.Schuessler found out where these mineral substances exist in the human body. On the base of this mineral salts homoeopathically‚ that they can be assimilated by the body especially well.

Nevertheless‚ according to Dr.Schuessler his new method clearly differs from the homoeopathy because with his mineral substance treatment the Simile principle is not applied what is so vital for the homeopathy. (Simile principle; the Similar is cured by Similar)

Dr.Schuessler called his method of treatment “biochemistry”‚ because the chemical connections of the human biology are considered. In English the healing method is often called biochemic cell salts. This new method of healing soon found eager followers and the number of his patients grew very fast.

Biochemic Cell Salts

The biochemic cell salts are alternative remedies based on organic salts elaborates by Dr.Willhelm Heinrich Schuessler (1821–1898). Although moderately diluted (3x–6x)‚ they are not classes as homoeopathic remedies‚ because they are not purported to act according to the “like cures like” principle of homoeopathy. Nonetheless‚ they are commonly advocate similar alternative medicine remedies‚ including homeopathy.

Inorganic salts were first used as homoeopathic remedies by Samuel Hahnemann‚ and further developed by Dr.Willhelm Heinrich Schuessler who identified 12 different salts in human tissue based on his analysis of the inorganic constituents of cremated organs and remains.

Dr.Schuessler concluded that the salts are important mineral constituent that are present in human cells‚ and that (in accordance with the theories of Virchow) disease took place at cellular level.

Even though water and organic matter make up a greater portion of living cells‚ the inorganic matter is the only substance that the organism/cells cannot produce by itself. Since the life of living cells is relatively short‚ the creation of new cells depends on the presence of minerals. Minerals deficiencies will inhibit the proper functioning of living cells.

Dr.Schuessler also stated that if an imbalance or deficiency of these salts at the cellular level were to occur‚ sickness may follow. Schuessler believed that the balance of these twelve salts could be restored by ingesting “cell salts” in a bioavailable form. He claimed that these minerals needed not so much to be “replaced” as the cells needed to be prompted by the presence of the homoeopathically potentised cell salts to restore balance of the essential components.

These days‚ tissue salts are usually prepared as tablets‚ made up with lactose in a manner similar to homoeopathic products; each inorganic salt is ground (triturated) with lactose powder in a ratio of 1:9‚ and this mixture is then ground with fresh lactose‚ again in a 1:9 ratio. This process is repeated either three or six times‚ yeilding a
1 000 000 to 1 dilution or 1000:1 dilution.

Because of this dilution‚ tissue salts are generally prescribed at dosages that are too low to have any detectable effect on the levels of the minerals and electrolytes involved. No peer reviewed scientific clinical trials have been conducted on tissue salts‚ and they are less well known on the public than some other complementary therapies.

The twelve tissue-salts described by Dr.Schuessler are:

Calcium Fluoride (1) Calcarea Fluoricum Tissue Elasticity
Calcium Phosphate (2) Calcarea Phosphoricum Bone Remedy
Calcium Sulphate (3) Calcarea Sulphuricum Blood Cleansing
Ferric Pyrophosphate (4) Ferrum Phosphoricum Blood Oxygenating
Potassium Chloride (5) Kalium Muriaticum Blood Cleansing and Oxygenating
Potassium Phosphate (6) Kalium Phosphoricum Nerve Remedy
Potassium Sulphate (7) Kalium Sulphuricum Respiration
Magnesium Phosphate (8) Magnesium Phosphoricum Anti-Spasmodic
Sodium Chloride (9) Natrium Muriaticum Control amount of water in blood
Sodium Phosphate (10) Natrium Phosphoricum Indigestion
Sodium Sulphate (11) Natrium Sulphuricum Eliminates Excess of water
Silicon Dioxide (12) Silicea Clean or Remove Heteroplasm

Often the five phosphates are combined into a compound remedy at 3x potency called “Biochemic Phosphates” which is recommended for nervous troubles.

15 Additional Cell Salts

The 15 so called additional cell-salts were discovered one after another by the followers of Dr.Schuessler. These additional cell-salts are applied like the basic cell-salts‚ but for special uses. It is quite well known especially in Germany.

Potassium Arsenite Calcium Sulphate Potassium Alum Sulfuricum
Potassium Bromite Copper Arsenite Arsenic Iodide
Potassium Iodide Zinc Chloride Aurum Chloratum Natronatum
Lithium Chloride Calcium Carbonate Selenium
Manganese Sulphate Sodium Bicarbonate Potassium Dichromate
